Hi Everyone! Donna is back this week with another look at her favorite serger technique for doll clothes – the Rolled Edge.  This technique has already been discussed in the Serger Basics course, and then we looked at using the rolled edge to create a lettuce edge finish in the Winter Sports Course, so if you haven’t seen that video, you might want to check it out.

In this video, Donna will discuss using special threads to create a more decorative edge. Follow along as we look at using traditional stretchy Wooly Nylon as well as a sparkly one that has a silver metallic thread wound into it.

We hope you’ll give some decorative threads a try next time you want to add an extra touch to your rolled edge hems.

Join Donna this month for a look at some different techniques using a serger.  These videos will build on the topics discussed in the Serger Basics Course, so if you haven’t seen those, you might want to check them out first, especially if you aren’t familiar with using sergers already.

  • The first week, we will be discussing Differential Feed and how it can be used to give a smoother edge to your fabric.
  • The next week, we’ll look at using the Differential Feed function to create a Gathered edge using the serger.
  • The third week will focus on the rolled edge.  We’ve talked about this stitch before, but this time, the focus will be on using special thread to create a more decorative edge.
  • Then, we will put all the techniques together in a sew-along with the Trendy Maxi Skirt by 123 Mulberry Street.

Let's get started with a look at understanding the Differential Feed functionality on your serger.
