This pattern was inspired by Spencer Jackets--the cropped, puffed-sleeved jackets worn with empire-waisted dresses during Regency times. I always loved the outfits worn by Elizabeth Bennett--the "Lizzy" of the pattern title--on the BBC production of Pride & Prejudice.

I started with a little top-down shrug, adding double increases at the sleeve cap to create adorable puffed sleeves. Once the simple shrug jacket was designed, I could picture it with longer sleeves or made more fancy by a ruffled hem, extending the use of a sundress beyond Fall to special events.

I hope you will find the pattern fun to work up, with a LOT less finishing work because of the top-down design.

This pattern was designed specifically to fit 14.5" dolls such as WellieWishers™.  This pattern is also available for 18" dolls such as American Girl®.

Supplies Needed:

*1/4 to 1/3 skein of fine fingering weight wool or blends for the shrug, more for the long-sleeved jacket. (I used 100% wool Palette or Stroll, from Knitpicks, which has 231 yards in a 50 g ball.
* Knitting needles, US size 0 (and 000 for cast on and optional ribbing) or size to obtain gauge. (I use Addi Turbo circular needles in the 16 inch length. They are definitely an investment, but make it easy to try doll items on as you knit. And if you have two, you can leave your inactive stitches on one while you work sleeves individually.)
*Yarn needle for finishing
*Three or four 7mm buttons for closure.

Gauge--in stockinette stitch with size 0 needles, my gauge is 20 stitches and 26-27 rows in a 2 x 2 inch (5.1 cm) square.

When it came time for taking pictures of my doll outfits for sale this summer, I just couldn't find what I was looking for in my collection of shoes, so I created my own! These adorable sandals delighted me to no end, so I thought I’d share that joy with other seamstresses and doll clothes creators!

The insoles are fabric-covered cardboard, the strap and heel are lined fabric, and the trim is made from fabric-wrapped cardstock (or you can use your own purchased trim). The example in the photo-illustrated steps is finished with a double-layered white flower backed by green leaves, but I’ll give some design advice as you consider your fabric choices. The options are limitless!

The charm of this sweet sweater comes from the all-around cabled edge, which is worked with short rows along the curved edges at the hem & mandarin collar. The sweater is worked from the top down to minimize finishing work. It has two neckline options—a curved cable “mandarin” collar (more complex, as shown on the hot pink sweater) and a hood.

You may also choose from several lengths—curved edge shrug, curved edge long sweater, or long with a simple ribbing edge. In addition, I’ve included instructions to create a cable edge on the sleeves, or you can end the sleeves with a less complex ribbing.

The "Yoking Around" design has a few features that are distinctive and fun to create. You will use short rows to create the curved yoke, which is worked first. Hidden by the twisting cables, the wraps of the short rows don’t have to be knitted together with the stitches on the next row. The cable-ribbed cuffs, hem, and neckline are created with reverse twist stitches worked from the wrong side—no cable needle needed!
The most complicated part of the pattern is probably picking up the stitches on the upper and lower edges of the curved yoke. The neckline is worked up from the yoke, and the sleeves and body are worked down from the yoke.

This aran sweater PDF pattern for 18" dolls such as American Girl is a beautiful design inspired by a favorite designer sweater. One charming feature of this sweater is its distinct collar, set into a square neckline, crossing at the chest. This design also looks lovely for a turtleneck sweater, so there are additional instructions to create a turtleneck instead of the crossover-collared version.

To create the sweater, the body is knit first, split at the arm holes, and worked to the shoulders. The collar stitches are picked up and knitted afterwards, then stitched at the front neck. The set-in sleeves are knitted separately and sewn in. The sweater is finished with a back ribbing and snaps or a zipper. It is fully open in the back for ease of dressing.

Supplies Needed:
-2 skeins of fine fingering weight wool or blends such as Palette or Stroll from Knitpicks. Both of these wool yarns have 231 yards in a 50 gram ball. (You might be able to complete the project with one, but having spare yarn will spare you any stress).
-Knitting needles in US sizes 1, 0, and 00 or size to obtain gauge.
-Six sets of 4/0 snaps OR separating zipper for back closure, with needle and coordinating thread
-Yarn needle for finishing
-Small crochet hook to aid in picking up and knitting collar and back ribbing.
-Two 5-7 mm buttons

Gauge--In stockinette stitch with size 1 needles, my gauge is 17-18 stitches and 23 rows in a 2 x 2 inch square
