Vendor: Knitting Little Designs
Type: Knitting
Price: 5.99

Knitting Little Design has created this sweet little knitting pattern for you to knit an adorable three-piece ensemble for your special 18-inch doll to wear in any season.

Sweet Seasons is a knitting pattern for a tunic-length long-sleeved cardigan sweater and matching hat with bonus instructions for a knitted curly scarf to fit 18 inch dolls such as American Girl® dolls. The sweater has an A-line shape and a buttoned front opening. Using seamless, top down construction, the sweater is knit flat [back and forth] with both knit and purl rows. The sleeves are placed on scrap yarn in order to complete the body. The sleeve stitches are then transferred back to the needles and additional stitches are picked up from the underarm. The sleeves are knit in the round using either double pointed needles or magic loop technique on circular needles. The hat is knitted in the round from the brim to the top and finished off with an i-cord loop. The neckband, waistband, button bands and cuffs of the sweater and the hat band are knitted in a seed stitch pattern.

This pattern includes basic knitting techniques as well as the following additional techniques:

  •  Knitting in the round on circular needles or double pointed needles. I used the magic loop technique.
  •  Making one stitch [m1] by lifting the bar of yarn between two stitches and knitting into the loop to create a new stitch.
  •  Increasing a stitch by knitting into the front and back [kfb] of a single stitch.
  •  Picking up stitches.
  •  Knitting a seed stitch design.
  •  Making an i-cord loop [explained in instructions].
  •  Making buttonholes with yarn over and knit 2 together.
  •  Transferring live stitches to scrap yarn and back to needles.

This PDF knitting pattern is designed to fit 18" dolls such as American Girl®.

Vendor: Knitting Little Designs
Type: WellieWishers
Price: 5.99

Little sisters now can have a delightful pullover sweater and matching hat ensemble that matches their big sisters’ set. This little ensemble has a Henley-style neck opening and fair isle motifs of adorable little sheep and hearts in a flower garden? You can create this darling set for your special doll with the Little Flock and Flowers Mini knitting pattern by Knitting Little Design. You will want to make this set in a variety of color combinations!

Little Flock and Flowers Mini pattern includes instructions for both the sweater and hat, and contains photos and step-by-step instructions for special techniques such as a contrasting edge cast-on, corrugated rib, three needle bind off, and more. There are color charts for the fair isle sections and written instructions for the remaining sections. Best of all, this pattern is almost seamless; only the base of the placket and the underarms require seaming. The sweater has a buttoned placket opening that can be worn at the front or the back. The body, sleeves and hat are knitted bottom up, in the round using stranded fair isle technique. Body and sleeves are knit separately to underarm then joined for the yoke. A placket opening is created at the back, beginning at the start of the yoke. The cuffs, hat band and hem of the sweater are knit in 2-color corrugated rib. The hat is closed at the top using either the 3-needle bind off or your preferred method of seaming.

This pattern requires intermediate skill and includes basic knitting techniques as well as the following additional techniques:
• Fair isle/stranded knitting in the round on circular needles or double pointed needles. I used the magic loop technique.
• Contrasting edge long tail cast on.
• Following a color and knitting symbols chart.
• Making buttonholes with yarn over and knit 2 together.
• Three needle bind off for hat.
• Grafting underarm seams using Kitchener stitch or preferred method of joining live stitches.

This PDF knitting pattern is designed to fit 14-14.5" dolls such as WellieWishers™ or Hearts For Hearts Girls®.  It is available separately for 18" dolls.

Recommended Yarn: Fingering/Super Fine [category 1 weight]

Supplies Needed:
Yarn: Fingering/Super Fine [category 1 weight] approximately 150 yards/30 g in total. Yarn amount is approximate and will vary depending on yarn used. Yarn options used in testing this pattern: Loops and Threads® [Woolike™], Cascade® [Cascade 220 Fingering™], Patons® [Kroy Socks™], Yarn Bee ® [Color Idyll™].

Needles: #1 US [2.25 mm] needles or the size that gives you correct gauge/tension for the yarn you are using, either double point or circular for magic loop. If you are using magic loop, you will need at least a 40”/100 cm cable but longer is preferred. Note: Because my gauge is tighter with fair isle than with plain stocking stitch, I used #1 US [2.25mm] for fair isle design and #0 US [2 mm] for plain one-color stocking stitch

Additional materials: yarn needle for grafting underarms and weaving ends, stitch holders or scrap yarn, 12 stitch markers optional, 2 buttons for placket.

Gauge/tension: 36sts x 48 rows rows = 4” [10 cm] square in stockinette stitch and fair isle
