The Clara pattern shows how small changes made to the details of a project can result in very different finished looks. Both versions of the sweater are made using the same base pattern - a top-down, seamless raglan with curved shaping at lower front edges. When worked in stripes and ribbed knit edgings, the result is a modern, sporty sweater. Knit in a solid color with crocheted shell edgings and a delicate picot trim in a contrasting color and you get a decidedly more feminine cardigan. There are many other possibilities than those show. Make a solid color version with the ribbed knit edging, then instead of a button closure, top it with a sewn or purchased skinny belt, or an unusual brooch at center front; work it in stripes with a solid color and a variegated yarn that has long color changes for an effortless multicolor striped version. Because the sleeves are worked seamlessly from the top-down, it’s very easy to alter the length to short sleeves, elbow length, or 3/4 length. One of the best things about knitting and crochet is that they give us the chance to play, to imagine different possibilities and let our creative side take center stage for awhile. Jane is a classic wool sweater dress. It has an allover, wide rib pattern with a dramatic cable down the front. The main part of the bodice is worked in one piece from the top-down, the skirt in one piece from the bottom-up, then the two are joined at the waist while stitches are still live. The Jane PDF Pattern is designed to fit the 18” American Girl or similar dolls with an 11” chest circumference.

Supplies Needed:
-Cherry Tree Hill Supersock Solids ~ 100% Merino wool; Fingering weight; 1 skein in the Blossom colorway; There are 420 yards per skein, but only approx. 225 yards are needed - something you may find useful to know if substituting yarn.
-Set of size US 1 (2.50mm) double pointed needles; A size US 1 (2.50 mm) circular needle in 24” length (or sizes required to get gauge)
-Cable needle
-Three 3/8” (9mm) buttons
-A darning needle for weaving in ends

Skill Level: Intermediate - uses a variety of stitches and techniques, with mid-level finishing skills required.

Helena is a lace cardigan with set in sleeves and deep ribbing accents at hip, sleeve cuffs and the over-sized collar. It's knit in one piece from the bottom up until the armholes, and the button bands are worked as you go to reduce the need for seaming and finishing at the end. The lace stitch pattern is provided in both written and charted format to suit your preference.
The Helena PDF Pattern is designed to fit the 18" American Girl or similar dolls with an 11" chest circumference.

Supplies Needed:
-1 ball of Knit Picks Stroll - 75% superwash merino wool,25% nylon; Fingering weight (231 yards per 50 gram ball), or suitable substitute yarn.
-Needles in sizes US 2 (3.00mm), US 3 (3.25mm), and US 4 (3.50mm) or sizes required to obtain gauge. Sweater is worked flat, so straight needles can be used if desired, but I prefer working back and forth on a 24" circular needle, as it allows you to try the body of the sweater on as you go.
-6 buttons, 3/8" in size
-2 stitch markers
-Scrap yarn for holding sts
-A darning needle for weaving in ends

Gwen is a turtleneck pullover with a round yoke and cap sleeves. The two color stitch pattern is created easily with slip stitches, giving the look of fair isle, without requiring you to be skilled in that technique. Slip stitch pattern is given in both text and charted format. The turtleneck, hem and sleeves are done in twisted rib. Sweater is knit entirely in the round from the bottom-up, sleeves included, so there’s no sewing required. Supplies Needed:

Yarn:
- 1 ball of Knit Picks Stroll in Ash for MC, 75% superwash merino wool, 25% nylon; Fingering weight (231 yards per 50 gram ball).
- 1 ball of Knit Picks Palette in White for CC, 100% Peruvian highland wool; Fingering weight (231 yards per 50 gram ball).

If substituting yarns or wishing to use up partial skeins leftover from other projects, you may find it useful to know that actual yardage requirements are approx. as follows:
MC 120 yards; CC 55 yards.

Needles:
- 1 set of size US 2 (3.00mm) DPNs, or size required to obtain gauge.
- 2 spare short (16” length) circular needles, equal to or smaller in size (so as not to stretch sts) than the DPNs you use to get gauge. These aren’t a necessity, but may make things a little easier. They’re used to hold the cast on sleeve sts for a round, then the stitches are knit off of them when joined to the rest of the sweater. You could also use stitch holders, spare DPNs or scrap yarn instead.
