Knitting Little Design has created this sweet little knitting pattern for you to knit an adorable three-piece ensemble for your special 18-inch doll to wear in any season.

Sweet Seasons is a knitting pattern for a tunic-length long-sleeved cardigan sweater and matching hat with bonus instructions for a knitted curly scarf to fit 18 inch dolls such as American Girl® dolls. The sweater has an A-line shape and a buttoned front opening. Using seamless, top down construction, the sweater is knit flat [back and forth] with both knit and purl rows. The sleeves are placed on scrap yarn in order to complete the body. The sleeve stitches are then transferred back to the needles and additional stitches are picked up from the underarm. The sleeves are knit in the round using either double pointed needles or magic loop technique on circular needles. The hat is knitted in the round from the brim to the top and finished off with an i-cord loop. The neckband, waistband, button bands and cuffs of the sweater and the hat band are knitted in a seed stitch pattern. 

This pattern includes basic knitting techniques as well as the following additional techniques:

•  Knitting in the round on circular needles or double pointed needles. I used the magic loop technique.
•  Making one stitch [m1] by lifting the bar of yarn between two stitches and knitting into the loop to create a new stitch.
•  Increasing a stitch by knitting into the front and back [kfb] of a single stitch.

Little Flock and Flowers Mini pattern includes instructions for both the sweater and hat, and contains photos and step-by-step instructions for special techniques such as a contrasting edge cast-on, corrugated rib, three needle bind off, and more. There are color charts for the fair isle sections and written instructions for the remaining sections. Best of all, this pattern is almost seamless; only the base of the placket and the underarms require seaming. The sweater has a buttoned placket opening that can be worn at the front or the back. The body, sleeves and hat are knitted bottom up, in the round using stranded fair isle technique. Body and sleeves are knit separately to underarm then joined for the yoke. The Daisy Stitch Jacket, by Genniewren Designs, is a versatile short outdoor coat that's perfect for your 18” dolls.

The jacket is knitted from the bottom up, with separate sewn in sleeves. The button and buttonhole bands are picked up and knitted along the front edges and the neck is finished with a knitted collar, or a hood – your choice!

There are no complex color-work techniques used in this pattern. The daisy knit stitch pattern is worked in simple stripes, with two rows in each color. The jacket examples have been knitted in three colors, and the row by row instructions reflect this, but the jacket could just as easily be worked in two colors, four colors, or even a plain single color with just a couple of colored pattern repeats at the lower edges of the hem and sleeves if you prefer. It's your jacket, so knit it your way!

The daisy stitch pattern gives a crunchy texture to the jacket that looks a little like crochet. Although the stitch may look complicated it is relatively easy and quick to knit. The pattern includes an optional headband so that you can practice the stitch and make something for your doll before you start to knit the jacket.

The pattern is written line by line with photo instructions for confident beginners, and includes a line by line summary without photos for printing.

This sweater pattern is reminiscent of the navy blue woolen sweaters worn by some of the school boys in the fall and winter. In the summer, white cotton sweaters were slung over their shoulders with the sleeves knotted about their necks.

This sweater is knitted in stockinette stitch. The sleeves are knitted first. Then the bodice of the sweater is worked in one piece up to the armholes. Next the sleeves are joined in and the raglan yoke is created by decorative decreases. The sweater is finished off with a single rib neckline. The only sewing to do is the sleeve seams and the buttons on the back.

The required gauge for this pattern is 17 stitches and 21 rows to 2" x 2" (5cm x 5cm).
